About Timetosser

Timetosser lets you re-arrange audio in a performative way. It continuously buffers the audio input. With the top row of buttons you're effectively shifting the playback position within the sequence of the music. This allows you to not only loop, but also bring back sounds from the past in a different order. By playing patterns on these buttons, you're able to reconstruct the music in any rhythmical pattern.

No cue points, no laptop. Hook it up via the send/return on your mixer and use it as an external FX unit, or drop it into a modular or live setup alongside your drum machines, synths, and other gear. You can also connect it to a computer and use it as a DAW interface.

How it works

Set up

Any line level signal works: a channel on your mixer, a send, or your master out. Tap in time with the beat to ensure Timetosser’s beat finder locks onto the tempo of your music.

Live buffering

Timetosser continuously buffers the audio input with tempo detection and allows you to jump backwards in the buffered audio, effectively shifting the playback position backwards in time within the music.

Play

The top row of buttons picks what position in the buffer you hear. Play them and you reconstruct the music in any order you like. Reverse it, resequence it, or let a pattern run. Press the circle and you're back in the live signal instantly.

Besides being a standalone device, Timetosser can also be connected to your computer. This way, Timetosser can be dropped as an effect on an audio track in your DAW.

When connected to your computer, Timetosser becomes a USB MIDI interface and controller for the Timetosser audio plugin (VST).

The audio plugin is a virtual Timetosser that can be dropped as an effect on an audio track in your DAW. One of up to eight plugin instances can be selected and controlled from the hardware unit

Use Timetosser as your MIDI-clock
Since Timetosser detects the tempo of the incoming audio, the MIDI-output can be used to send out that tempo. This means you can synchronize your MIDI-gear and have them play in time with anything you feed into Timetosser.

Already have a set tempo from another device?
Use Timetosser’s MIDI-IN to sync to the incoming midi-clock signal. For the modular wizkids, it also supports analog gate voltages! To use analog gate sync, just connect a standard mono mini-jack cable to the sync input directly.

Most likely, yes! Timetosser can be used in various different setups. Whether you're a vinyl DJ, a producer, or a modular synth enthusiast, Timetosser can add something new to your music and opens up a lot of creative options.

Not really, no. A loop repeats a fixed sample. A hot cue jumps to a pre-marked point. Timetosser does neither, it continuously buffers whatever is playing through it right now, no preparation needed. You're jumping backwards in a constantly updating buffer, always in sync with the live signal. Nothing is frozen, nothing is pre-planned. You're always working with what's playing right now.

No computer needed! Timetosser is a standalone device, just power it via USB and connect your audio. There's no software required to use it. If you want to, you can connect it to a computer to use it as a DAW interface or control it via the companion plugin, but that's entirely optional.

When not externally synced, the tap-tempo is used as a “hint” for the built-in tempo detector. This way, the system is able to home in on the correct tempo faster. The internal tempo is sent out to the midi-output.

When Timetosser is externally synchronised through midi or gate, the tap tempo allows you to tap in a multiplier of the external tempo. This way, you’re able to halve, double or even set the internal tempo to a fraction of the external tempo.

Yes. Timetosser takes any line-level signal, so you can connect it to a single mixer channel, a send/return, or your master output. Most people use it as an external FX unit via their mixer's send/return, but how you integrate it is up to you.

Various types of domestic wall sockets and plugs are being used worldwide. Currently, there are over 10 different wall socket standards in use. As we ship to every part of the world, we would have to stock all types which would be a costly and inefficient endeavor. Secondly, we know that most people have been accumulating USB power adapters over the years, and that producing (and shipping) millions of unneeded adapters and accessories consumes resources and adds to our carbon footprint.

Considering these two arguments, we think it’s rather more efficient if one buys a compatible power adapter locally, and only if needed. If you are looking to get one near you, we have had good results with 5V smartphone chargers and generic (multi-port) usb chargers from several brands.

MK2 units have an improved noise floor, optimised internal parts and better processing capabilities. These improved capabilities make room for future firmware updates with more extended features.
