Optimal volume: what level Howler records at and how to get the best sound quality out of your DJ-sets

Everything you need to know about the volume of recording and livestreaming with the Howler.

Volume-wise, Howler records at a fixed level of +0dB (for livestreaming this is +6dB). This means that the audio that goes into the Howler is recorded at the same level as it comes out of your source. This is to ensure that the audio is captured cleanly, failsafe, and without any distortion. We thoroughly tested Howler on all market standard club/festival mixers (including Pioneer and Xone) and the sound starts clipping / distorting at the mixer first, before it will distort at Howler. So make sure to never fully turn up the volumes of the mixer channels all the way in the red and you are perfectly safe for the best club sound and the Howler recording.

As a best practice, we recommend normalizing your recordings before uploading them to any platform. You can use free software like Audacity to adjust the volume to an optimal level.
